Fatoumata (Fifi) Soumah Crowned Miss Africa USA 2010

The Miss Africa USA Management team proudly presents the African Queen in America Miss Fatoumata (Fifi) Souma who will reign as Miss Africa USA 2010 – 2011. Miss Fifi was crowned at the beautiful Montgomery College Performing Arts Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, on Saturday July 24 2010.

Fifi Souma is  from the Republic of Guinea Conakry, 21 yrs old, speaks fluent French and English, Full time student at Montgomery College with a major in Communication. Fifi’s platform is to raise awareness and fight against the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), promote Education of the Girl Child in Guinea and to continue as
a Goodwill Ambassador volunteering for America by teaming up
with charitable organizations across the United States to serve needy communities. According to the Judges, Fifi had a lot of poise and gleamed with confidence on stage, looked comfortable, is very talented and stood out overall.

The Pageant weekend kicked off with an elaborate VIP banquet at the University of Maryland Marriott Conference Center while the pageant show took place at Montgomery College Performing Arts Center in Silver Spring, MD. Both events were successful and sold out beyond capacity and we do apologize to those who were turned away because the PAC had no more room for anymore attendees.

A total of 32 finalists from different African countries participated in the competition and Fifi Soumah emerged as the winner. Fifi will continue to work on her Platform : raising awareness on Female Genital Mutilation and promoting education for the girl child. She will also be volunteering for America, joining major charities to help communities in need.

Dr. Emma Osong to MC the Miss Africa USA VIP Banquet July 23 2010

The Miss Africa pageant management proudly welcomes on board Dr. Emma Osong as the Official MC for the 2010 VIP and Ambassadors Banquet marking the launch of the 2010 Scholarship pageant.  Dr. Emma Osong has hosted several high profile events in the Washington DC area and she will bring her special touch of class to the Miss Africa USA Pageant.

DR. Emma Ngang Osong, D.M, is a corporate trainer, professor, and consultant with a background in aviation engineering, organizational management, and Leadership Development.  She has worked as a Senior Systems Engineer consultant to the Federal Aviation Administration. She serves as adjunct faculty at the Catholic University in Washington D.C. and as Graduate faculty at Argosy University in Arlington, Virginia. She has been hired to speak at several events including the World Bank.

Dr. Osong was Miss Cameroon-USA in 1987. She has a passion for advocacy and volunteers her time as a grade school teacher and to various charities. Osong holds a doctorate in management and leadership from the University of Phoenix and masters in electrical engineering from the Catholic University of America. She lives with her husband Gerry and three children, Nadine, Praxedes, and Steph in Maryland. When not working, Emma enjoys traveling, reading, classical music, and entertaining. An exclusive banquet, the first in the pageant’s history in honor of the 32 finalists who will be competing this year for the coveted crown. The banquet will bring together special VIPs such as Elected Officials in the Maryland/DC area, African Ambassadors, sponsors, family and friends of the Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant in an evening of fun. The banquet also features a breathtaking fashion show featuring top designers from the motherland, an Award ceremony and a great opportunity to network with attendees.

All 32 Finalists for the pageant will be formally introduced, kicking off the pageant competition with their platform Presentations and micro-project achievements so far.  It is a night of great substance and we are all looking forward to this Red Carpet event, launching the 2010 pageant.


MISS GUINEA NORTH AMERICA: Fifi Souma to hand over her Crown to New Queen

After a successful reign as Miss Guinea North America 2009-2010, Miss Fifi Souma is ready to hand over her crown to the new Queen who will be elected July 10 2010 at the Grand Finals of Miss Guinea North America.  The organizers of Miss Guinea North America are inviting all fans and supporters of African pageantry to join them at that Coronation event slated for July 10 201, from 5.30pm  to  11.30pm. The location is Montgomery College Performing Arts Center, 7995 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD.

TOP AFRICAN FASHION DESIGNERS SET TO DAZZLE UP THE MISS AFRICA USA 2010 PAGEANT RUNWAY

Its that time of the year again when the eyes are on the Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant, searching for that next Queen for the coveted crown.  Previous pageants have benefited from the support of African Fashion Designers, showcasing African Couture at its best but this year is different as the pageant has attracted some top names and award winners from the motherland and diaspora.  There is great excitement in the air and fans are looking forward to some breathtaking designs on the pageant Runway.

The Miss Africa USA Pageant Management is proud to welcome the following Designers from Africa and diaspora:

MUSTAFA HASSANALI is based in Tanzania, well respected when it comes to African Couture, has won several awards for his creativity and Style. Mustafa has also worked with Supermodels like Naomi Campbell.  Mustafa has confirmed his participation in the 2010 Miss Africa USA Pageant to be held in Maryland on July 24 2010 at the Takoma Park Performing Arts Center in Silver Spring MD.

Mustafa Hassanali will be joining us from Dar Es Salam in Tazania.

The Miss Africa USA Pageant is very proud to welcome on board the renowned Fashion Designer from Nigeria Frank Osodi.  Frank is also well respected in the African Fashion arena around the world not only in Nigeria where he is based.  His inspiration and style is recognized internationally and has participated in the New York Fashion Week held annually in New York City. Frank will graze the Miss Africa Runway with some of his breathtaking designs.

Coming all the way from the Pearl of Africa – Uganda, is the beautiful and inspirational designer Stella Atal who will be joining us at the upcoming Miss Africa USA Pageant slated for July 24  2010 in Maryland.  Stella Atal is an international Designer whose influence on Runways span across the African Continent and beyond.  Stella is also an award winning Fashion Designer and we are excited to be able to work with her. She promises to storm the Runway taking charge of the ‘Parade of Nations’ Segment of the competition. Stella Atal is know for Originality and Style

Coming all the way from the beautiful country of Kenya is the beautiful and talented Vera Vee Ochia, who has made a name in the Kenyan Fashion Industry and is going International. She recently participated in the Swahili Fashion week with the most beautiful designs. We are very proud to welcome Vera Vee Ochia who will bring some Kenyan inspiration to the Miss Africa USA Runway.  Vera will be joining us from Nairobi, Kenya.

Leaving Africa and homing in on some of our US based Designers we are proud to welcome on board Miss Estella Al or Estella Couture as she is best known.  Estella has worked with the Miss Africa USA Pageant for the last 3 years, she has witnessed the pageant grow and is always ready to lend a hand.  We are very happy to have Estella Couture on Board again this year. Estella hails from Nigeria and her designs are certainly inspired by her roots. Well respected name in the Fashion industry in Africa Diaspora, she is also very passionate about helping people in need. Her most recent humanitarian effort is the Fashion For Jos campaign to raise funds for the victims of the recent Massacre in the Nigerian community of Jos.

Still homing in, on designers of the Africa diaspora, we caught up with the LA based Fashion designer Akouavi Fashions.  Akouavi is originally from Togo, based in California. The pageant team proudly welcomes Akouavi Fashions as one of the lead designers to dazzle the Miss Africa USA Runway. Not only does Akoavi design casual and couture wear, she has a huge collection of African Hats and head gears.

There is lots of excitement and interest in the upcoming Miss Africa USA Pageant. The management looks forward to working with all the featured designers and to support the general efforts to promote and encourage such great talent from the motherland.

MISS AFRICA USA ANNOUNCES 2010 VIP BANQUET AND AWARD CEREMONY

The Management of Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant is happy to announce plans for its First VIP Banquet and Awards Ceremony.  The Miss Africa USA pageant empowers young and dynamic African women in the United States of America as leaders and Goodwill Ambassadors for Africa and America.  Each Delegate takes on an achievable micro project to benefit a community in need in Africa or in America.

In this light therefore the pageant management deems it fit to acknowledge the work of other great humanitarians in the community at large as an inspiration for all finalists of the pageant.  In particular, the pageant will highlight the humanitarian achievements of past Beauty Queens as well as the achievements of those humanitarians who have worked to improve the lives of the needy in Africa.   The pageant is currently taking nominations for The Miss Africa USA Woman of Valor Awards and Humanitarian Awards.  Please email recommendations to info@missafricaunitedstates.com

Miss Cameroon USA 2008-09 takes to the RUNWAY

In Oct 2008, Danielle Frankie Mingana Fochive won the title of Miss Cameroon USA 2008 and was the sole representative for the Republic of Cameroon at the 2008 Miss Africa USA Scholarship Pageant.  At that time Danielle Frankie as she is best known was a full time student at Montgomery College in Maryland, studying Radiology.  Her passion for modeling was immediately ignited after she successfully competed in the pageant and won the best Talent.

Danielle launched her career in modeling soon after the pageant while still a student.  Danielle has been working major Runways in Washington DC and New York, participating in casting calls, fashion shows and photo shoots for magazines and other media.

Danielle Frankie’s Dream is to make it to America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. She is confident of her beauty and good looks and is determined to make her dream come true.  In the mean time, Danielle has participated in major Runway Shows like the DC Fashion Week,  Downtown Silver Spring Fashion Show and has worked with top African Designers from the continent.   Danielle is also broadening her scope and exploring her talent by venturing into other areas of entertainment.  She recently completed a film project with a Maryland based film production company called Callywood and has already casted for a role in an upcoming production with Cameroon Films.com.  Danielle is a young lady with many talents who is also very determined to succeed.  She is certainly one to look out for, a rising star in the Cameroon Entertainment Industry, modeling world and more.

In an elaborate celebration at the Nation’s Capital, in August 2009, Fatoumata Soumah ‘Fifi’ was crowned Miss Guinea USA 2009.  Miss Guinea USA pageant is a scholarship pageant which empowers young women from Guinea living in the United States of America.

Fifi as she is best know, did not only win the hearts of the Judges and the audience on pageant night, she also got some special attention from one of  Guinea’s most celebrated Artists;  Sekouba Bambino Diabate, an internationally renowned African singer and song writer. Mr. Diabate delighted the auditence with a live performance of a special song fit for the Queen.

Fatoumata was crowned by the Nation’s reigning Queen in Guinea who made a special appearance at the Miss Guinea USA pageant for the ceremony. Soon after being crowned, Fifi and the Reigning Miss Guinea in Guinea were treated to a special reception hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Guinea in Washington DC.

 Miss Africa USA, Nyasha Zimucha was certainly out to have fun at Barbie’s 50th Birthday.  A special guest at this special occasion she was happy to express herself to the media about the significance of Baribie. She said she sees Barbie as representing young women and this goes beyond the color of one’s skin.  Nyasha teamed up with Heidi Khlum and they both looked like black and white Barbies…lol, how cute…….
